In a moment that marks a significant milestone for Leicester Nirvana, the club's representative stepped onto the prestigious grounds of the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.
Amidst the awe-inspiring corridors of the UN Headquarters, Leicester Nirvana's representative Ivan Liburd, embarked on a private tour that left an indelible mark. The exhibits and monuments displayed around the interior and exterior, each a testament to global harmony and diversity, conveyed poignant stories that resonated with a blend of melancholy and hope.
"Reflecting on this remarkable journey, it is a testament to the club's dedication and vision for a sustainable future and one rich with justice. If you had told the club 20 years ago that a member of Nirvana would visit the United Nations Headquarters in celebration of our work, we would have never of believed it. Looking back at where we started as a club and the challenges that we have overcome makes us resonate even more with the UN’s mission for global peace." - explained Ivan Liburd, Leicester Nirvana SDG Climate Champion.
One exhibit that particularly captured the essence of transformation was the 'Non-Violence' sculpture, a symbolic piece portraying a 45-calibre revolver with its barrel intricately entwined in a knot, representing the metamorphosis of violence into peace.
Venturing into the heart of the UN, where international dialogues shape the world, Leicester Nirvana's visit breathed new life into the club's commitment towards positive change through sports. Standing tall and visible from a distance, the iconic structure of the building symbolised hope and resilience – something that nirvana also mirror.
The pivotal meeting with UN Representative Carlos Islam was a defining moment as Leicester Nirvana presented a ground-breaking report on Embedding Sustainable Development Goals across Grassroots Football. The shared vision for a brighter tomorrow through sports underscored the club's dedication to driving impactful transformation within the community.
As Leicester Nirvana continues to champion sustainability, inclusivity and equality, the visit to the United Nations has demonstrated the club's resolve to pave the way for a more equitable and sustainable futures through sports.
