Leicester Nirvana recently embarked on an inspiring journey to Germany, a trip that wasn't just about football but about fostering connections, sharing knowledge, and embracing sustainability in a whole new way. Organised by De Montfort University (DMU), this visit brought together Leicester Nirvana with FC, FC Internationale Berlin and SG Eintracht Peitz, creating a platform to discuss crucial topics such as sustainability and net zero among other things.

As the delegation from Leicester Nirvana touched down in Berlin, there was a mix of excitement and apprehension. While they were well-aware of Berlin's turbulent history, they were unsure of what to expect, in a strange new world as they say. However, they were pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome they received, setting the tone for a fruitful exchange of ideas and experiences.

The discussions that ensued during the visit were enlightening, revealing the shared challenges and aspirations of grassroots football clubs on both sides of the border. From addressing issues like racism and discrimination, and the influx of refugees with a desire to play football in a safe space. To the lack of infrastructure to embracing social responsibility. There was a recognition of the need for collective action and collaboration even though the teams sat in different countries. The exchange of ideas wasn't one-sided; Leicester Nirvana members gained valuable insights that they hope to implement back home, contributing to their journey towards sustainability and community engagement.

Exploring the streets of Berlin, Leicester Nirvana members were struck by the city's rich history, from iconic landmarks to unexpected encounters like stumbling upon a National farmer’s protest that had been on international news.

Moving seamlessly from East to West Germany and even venturing further to Cottbus in Brandenburg, they immersed themselves in the cultural tapestry of the region, minus the beer. Despite the chilly winter weather, they savoured the diverse culinary choices, and are already hoping for a return visit in the warmer months.

By learning from each other and sharing best practices, clubs like Leicester Nirvana can forge partnerships that transcend geographical boundaries.
